Has anyone tried it ? Or rise of Agon ?
For those who don't know darkfall's dev Aventurine crashed and burned a few months ago after having grabbed the title of the best worst game developer ever.
Since, they have sold not once but twice their IP to two different studios. Which are developing two new versions of the original 2009 game (dfo not df:uw, released in 2013)

I gave New Dawn a try for a couple hours when they started their open alpha. It's playable but I just did not want to grind up a new char ...

The grind is ok, now that the meditation points are gained not with gold but with activities (quests, chests, village capture etc). They have now linked quite a few magic skills: leveling the school-skill now autolevel heal and buff spells. I got a pvp-ready char in about 5 days (315 hp, fireschool at 50 and bowmastery)
But its on the design part that find the game impressive, they've added lots and lots of incentive to stay blue (lawfull), which makes ffa pvp less susceptible and though, zones safer. But also most if not all of the clan are now faction based, and though engaging in race wars. This will be great once local banking goes live.
Tons of other changes (mount sprint, weapon re balance, UI drastically improved, similar spell cd linked) it looks extremely promising.

Cool. How active is the server? How common are sieges? Small-scale skirmishes?

Being given that RoA is currently in free trial, DnD is pretty empty. Still about a siege every night or so. They currently are in the middle of cycle 3 and population should drastically raise in cycle 4.

- First balance pass and start of The great Magic Overhaul
Patch Cycle 4:
- Engagement system.
- Casual players aimed content.
- Free period and start of external marketing.
- Watchtowers.
